The true face of Islam, the true face of humanity

Many days have passed after the recent terrorist attacks on Jordan. People are still condemning and deploring these actions, and demonstrations are being organized in the peaceful Jordanian streets. I, like the rest of the Jordanian citizens, follow up the news with anticipation and sorrow. By God’s grace, one of the sinful executants of this disgraceful action was arrested, a Muslim woman, which clearly shows from her headscarf. Seeing this woman on T.V. dressed in an Islamic fashion is really outraging. Thanks to the nasty hands of terrorism, the image of Islam has been badly distorted. What did this lunatic group gain from attacking peaceful people who were celebrating a joyful occasion, turning their joy into misery? How can we justify turning a wedding into a funeral, changing the start of a new life into the end of lives in bundles? I have heard some common people theorize about the real story behind these attacks, saying that the real target was a bar located above the celebrations gallery. This makes the attacks legitimate and justified because the bar contains only Westerners and drunkards, and these deserve to have their lives terminated. I just wonder, who has assigned these people the heavenly duties of our Almighty God? Who gave them the right to judge others and to set themselves as gods besides our Lord, the One and Only? God only has the right to call us to account.

I won’t start to say that Islam isn’t a bloody religion and that it does not call its followers for constant bloodshed. I won’t start to say that many Islamic verses openly state heavenly commands to preserve the life of the living creatures, as these lives are sacred and should not be terminated except for justified reasons. I won’t start to say how merciful the Islamic teachings are, and how merciful the God of Islam is. My only reference is the Quran and its Holy verses uttered by God, and this should be the reference of any person who wishes to know the true face of Islam, which is totally unrelated to the distorted image formulated to the world by the shameless extremists who call themselves “Islamists”.

Unfortunately, the situation worldwide has put us into a continuous strife to reveal the truth of Islam to the world and to try to protect its image as a peaceful, merciful religion. During all this, we forgot something that is essential. We forgot that being Muslims or Christians or Hindus does not matter; we are all humans. These terrorist attacks are attacks on the image of humanity, not only on the image of Islam. No religion on Earth could have survived this long if it was in contradiction with the most crucial feature of human beings, that is, their humanity. Like it or not, this is what logic says, and I have always been a logical person. Be it Islam or Christianity or even Hinduism, if any of these called for merciless bloodshed; it would have become history by now. Will we just drop the struggle about what the true face of Islam really is, and start to realize that whoever makes such dreadful actions towards the sacred life must be someone who has merely lost his/her sense of humanity and their logical way of thinking, and that they have just lost trace of their human nature?
